Before the Sky Falls
Macbeth is the story of an ambitious tyrant at the heart of a network of corrupt, violent and misogynistic machistas. As such, Macbeth appears as the literary prototype of toxic masculinity, and his reign as a mirror of current authoritarian regimes around the world, including Brazil.
In “Before the Sky Falls,” the director takes Shakespeare’s classic play and presents us with men who are drunk with power and inclined to devour anything that seems weak, feminine or fragile… until the spirits of the Amazon call to the forest and fight back.
Guided by the philosophy of the Yanomami, an indigenous people from northern Brazil, she brings the witches' oracle to Macbeth's sleep and the tropical forest takes over the stage.
