Actress Lian Gaia

Are you born an artist or do you become one?
Lian Gaia would say a bit of both. Born in 1991 on the outskirts of Belford Roxo, in the Baixada Fluminense (RJ), Gaia was enchanted by art in all its forms, even though her access to it was somewhat scarce. From a humble family, she grew up in a tenement house with her mother and siblings. It wasn't until she was 15 that she stepped onto the theater stage for the first time, starring in a play produced by the city government and shown at the local Sesc.
With a degree in Psychology from Santa Úrsula University, Gaia is now an actress with poetic and performative work presented in soap operas, cinemas and theaters in Brazil and around the world. She attended the seventh Cesgranrio Actors' Workshop and is a student at the Casa das Artes in Laranjeiras (CAL).

Her recent work includes the special “Falas da Terra” (Talks of the Earth), aired on Rede Globo; the short film “Baile” (Baile), RePensa Festival and Echoes Indigenous Film Festival returns to the ICA in London; the Amazon Prime Video series “DOM”; the soap opera “Vai na Fé” (Go in Faith), also aired on Rede Globo; the film “Eclipse” by Djin Sganzerla; the Netflix film “Trago seu Amor” and the international tour of the show “Depois do Silêncio” directed by Christiane Jatahy, which toured the world, visiting important theaters such as REDCAT in Los Angeles (USA) and the Wiener Festwochen in Vienna, Austria.
Connected to her ancestry, she is the great-granddaughter of Elizabeth Teixeira and João Pedro Teixeira - the founding leader of the first peasant league in Paraíba whose life and struggle was the subject of the classic documentary “Cabra marcado para morrer” (1984) and a descendant of indigenous peoples from the northeast and the Amazon. She is a member of the Wayra Kunas Brasil Movement; co-founder of Anauá Filmes, an independent audiovisual production company and creator of the group “Ensaios Ancestrais” which, during the covid-19 pandemic, promoted the mental health of indigenous women in Latin America through online meetings and dialogues aimed at strengthening their struggle and identity.
